So, What Is This Magic You Speak Of?
In my practice, I blend traditional acupuncture, quantum physics, tapping, physiology, and neuroscience to best facilitate change. I love helping my clients heal on all levels and be the best they can be. I use a simple form of energetic scanning and intuition to help locate areas of imbalance. Once identified, a combination of gentle techniques are used, which remind the brain and nervous system to direct more resources to the areas of the body that require assistance.. This awareness helps to get us out of "stress mode" and back into "healing mode" encouraging the body, mind, and spirit to rebuild, repair, and rebalance. While the facilitation of the body's natural healing ability is what nature intended, it still seems extraordinarily magical! Every story has a beginning, here's mine...
People who knew me before I was an acupuncturist often ask how I went from being a glass and jewelry artist to acupuncturist to mind-body magician. Well, that’s pretty simple, fate. Really! I used to be the girl who would either break out in hives and blotches or almost pass out even at just the thought of medical "stuff". Obviously, this was some sort of calling because I most certainly wouldn't have chosen to go into the healthcare field! Most of my life I struggled with strange symptoms that consistently baffled the western medical world. Sound familiar? I saw doctor after doctor, I knew I had various allergies but it wasn’t until I was 24 years old that I finally discovered that food allergies and sensitivities were playing a huge role. I tried all kinds of things to help lessen the symptoms and reactions. I even paid a woman to light a candle because she told me it would help my clear my allergies. What can I say? I was desperate! Over the years, I had small improvements here and there (not from the candle). One day, my Mom met an acupuncturist in Florida who said he could “fix me”! At that point, what did I have to lose? So, of course, I packed the car, grabbed the dog, and off we went to be “fixed!" Perhaps “fixed” wasn’t quite the right word. I wasn’t broken, I was just allergic to stuff. After an extensive course of acupuncture and allergy elimination sessions I was much healthier and less reactive! During my sessions, I was always asking tons of questions. I quickly realized that my thirst for knowledge and passion for helping people, like me, who were searching for answers and insights may lead me down a new path. The next thing I knew, I was applying to acupuncture schools. (Yeah, Mom was shocked at that one!) My education has been a long, exciting, and often surprising, journey! (In hindsight, after all the hours I clocked studying at Starbucks, I probably should have bought their stock.) In, 2006, I began my studies at the Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine to become a Licensed Acupuncturist. During my first two years of school I kept questioning why I was there. If you remember, health stuff and I were not exactly BFFs. Fortunately, I had a gut feeling that kept telling me I was supposed to be there. I was totally fascinated with the theory of acupuncture. It made perfect sense to me. It explained how we mimic nature and it's cycles. I loved it! I still "geek out" on five element theory pretty much daily. The part that I struggled with was the needles. Needles can be amazing, but not necessarily when people are horrified of them. I knew there had to be another way. While I was still in school, I studied a few additional modalities that showed me it was possible to have great results without needles! I finally knew I was on the right path. Eventually, I found a combination of techniques that made sense… all of the theory, none of the needles! It was even more exciting when I realized I could get faster results than I experienced with traditional acupuncture and at a deeper level. Bonus! After all these years, I still continue studying, learning, and taking courses in order to best fit the needs of my clients. |
